Duct Leakage Testing
Pressurized duct testing to quantify leakage and confirm sealing against project requirements.
Performed as part of DET verification, duct systems are isolated and pressurized with a calibrated fan to measure leakage at the specified test pressure. Results are compared to the allowable leakage rate for the duct class or program threshold, and failing sections are identified for sealing before the system is concealed.
Typical Scope
- Total leakage and leakage-to-outside testing
- Rough-in testing prior to concealment and final testing after finish
- Leakage class calculation based on tested surface area
- Isolation of failing branches or risers for targeted correction
- Retest after sealing to document the corrected result
Deliverable
Leakage results by system with test pressure, measured CFM, allowable threshold, pass/fail status, and retest documentation.
Where It Applies
Sheet metal acceptance testing, residential and multifamily code testing, and specification compliance.
